That's my question. I want to write an app purely for personal use that will alert me when viewing conditions are going to be good for astronomy based on a number of different things. I don't really want to sell it on the app store, or make it available to anyone. This is simply a practice app.

Xcode lets you install the apps you're developing on your devices to test them. AFAIK you should be fine.

Yes.

You can use a Personal provisioning profile if you want your app to run for a week or so on your personal iOS devices.

Or you can enroll in Apple’s $99/annum Developer program if you want your app to run for up to one year. You just use Xcode on your local Mac to build and install your app; no need to submit the app to Apple or to the App Store.
