Can iCloud sync my school work?

I'm a college student and the proud owner of an iMac, iPod Touch, and a Macbook. All three have their iCal information synced together which helps me stay organized wonderfully, but I want to do the same with the files for my school work...

See, my iMac and the monitor next to it is kind of my "battlestation" where I complete the vast majority of my work, and I take my Macbook with me for computing on the go. In order to avoid the embarrassing situation of "I left my assignment on my desktop at home," I usually transfer files back and forth between the computers with a USB stick, which has worked relatively well but... it's still a little awkward and I occasionally get mixed up with duplicating the files all the time.

So I need to know if I can use iCloud to just sync my school work between the computers using the default free 5 GB of iCloud storage I get. First of all, both computers are running Snow Leopard, and I'm not sure if that's a problem. I also have no idea how to actually access this iCloud storage space so if someone could orient me in that process, it would be much appreciated.

TL;DR: How do I sync the files using iCloud between my SL iMac and my SL Macbook?

You would have to manually upload them to icloud.com each time you edited a document.

Dropbox would be a better solution, IMO.

Ditto. Apparently, that type of sync may be coming in some form for OSX 10.8 if rumors can be believed, but for now, it's Dropbox. iCloud is just too much of a pain outside of iOS.

I use dropbox to sync my research work and assignments accross my mba, ipad and a school pc if I need it. Works great and you can back it up via timemachine so it is all safe and sound

Depends on which apps you use. If you use, for example, Pages, I believe it can auto-save to iCloud and you can pick up where you left off on another device. If not, that feature is coming. When Mountain Lion comes out, iCloud will be more tightly integrated and could be a solution for you.

In the meantime, I will confirm that Dropbox is great. Only 2GB storage (for the free version, anyway), but it's been a fantastic, reliable service for me.

That's not how it is. You will be able to save docs to iCloud once Mountain Lion ships this summer, but (as far as I know) auto-save is not set to be a part of the initial roll out.
