I had my alum 24-inch iMac plugged to my 2 month old Marantz stereo amplifier. Tonight the amplifier blew up badly. Could the iMac have been the reason of it?

Unlikely. The iMac shouldn't produce any high voltage on its stereo output, and the amplifier should handle even quite unreasonable inputs without problems. At worst, the iMac would have blown up that one input.
If the one input is broken where the iMac was plugged in, and everything else works, then it _might_ be the iMac's fault. If the amplifier doesn't work at all, no way. Of course it would be unwise telling your HiFi dealer about the iMac, in case they might try to use any excuse to fob you off instead of fixing the problem under warranty ("Our amplifiers are only compatible with computers running Windows. " "I run Windows." "Only Windows XP 64 bit Edition". "I run Windows XP 64 bit Edition". "Did you use service pack 1 or 2?". Now they've got you. Whatever you answer they say: "Well, that's the problem then. You should have used the other service pack. This one is known to destroy amplifiers. Good bye".)
