How big is it? Well, each PSB file takes 10~30gb. Both Mac Pro 2010 and 2013 barely covered each file on Photoshop but Mac Pro 2013 shut down by itself several times due to overheating issue. Mac Pro 2010 was slow but at least it did a job but now 2~3 RAM slots are dead. Since I need to get a new Mac, I was wondering if iMac Pro can handle a big PSB file on Photoshop? Im just worrying about thermal throttle and overheating due to a small cooler from iMac Pro. I would like to try working PSB files on iMac Pro if it works but I dont have an opportunity to try it since I dont wanna kill their computers. Or otherwise, I would need a built a separate computer just for Photoshop which is around $1500. Still, As a Mac user, I really dont wanna spend money on PC.

If you have iMac Pro with Photoshop who can test it for me, let me give you some information:

1. Canvas size is 44X60 with 16 bit and 300ppi.
2. More than 30 JPEG files and they are upscaled to fit 44x60
3. ProPhoto RGB
4. PSB format
5. Hue/saturation, curve tool

Of course it can. That's not the real question which should be: How big does that iMac Pro need to be?

What does Adobe say? These are minimums only with CYA language to indicate you may need more for many features.

The GPU on an iMac Pro runs circles around what you've been using before. The Vega 64 is certainly your best bet among any of the Mac offerings and one of your choices with the iMac Pro.

Can't have too much RAM but how much is enough? 64G should be fine on an iMac Pro.

The guys building high end Photoshop machines are saying there's little advantage to more than 8 cores — but they are recommending the i9, not available on the iMP. I think that, with enough RAM and a Vega 64, you can do ok with an 8 core. If using a large number of plugins, 10 may be better.

I'm not looking for theoretical information. Full upgraded Mac Pro 2013 failed several times because of overheating CPU. Mostly, Photoshop does not require too many specs from the computer but for my uses, CPU, and CPU cooler performance are important. Btw I use Final Cut Pro for video. So the question is, can iMac Pro run 10~30gb of PSB files on Photoshop? If so, can it run without overheating issue?

I'm not in front of my Pro at the moment, but i'll fire it up tonight...

Canvas size... is that inches? We use mm here so just want to confirm

Killing computers though? Yeah, nah. All my mahcines run flat out rendering for days at a time, I've run MBP's at 105C for days on end and they have never failed, so I find that part of your post very hard to believe, but lets give it a shot.

Yes, we use inch in here. If you dont get 10~30gb PSB file, you can add more images. You just need to stack them on the canvas. I can send you a sample video of how I made it.

I've never had cause to run files that large so out of interest I added images to create a 30GB PSB file. It worked with no drama or fuss and I could manipulate the file. Clearly I don't know your workflow but my quick test did not stress my iMac - base model iMP.

Hope this helps.

Few questions.

1. How was the fan speed and temperature?
2. Any saving and throttling speed issue?
3. Did it ever crash?

No performance issues at all, as well as running a brace of productivity tasks. As for the fans, well it is an iMP so you just don't hear them. Freakishly quiet when you have become accustomed to the roar of a regular iMac. I mustn't be the only one to download a fan monitoring tool after purchase... just to make sure they are actually spinning.
