I've never found iMovie to be of any help to me, and it continues to not be. For the last couple of years I've had a Zoom license for lots of meetings each of which gets recorded to an *.mp4 file. I can open and read the file in Zoom of course, but also in QuickTime, VLC, etc., except iMovie. iMovie refuses to open the file for editing. So other than QuickTime's Trim function, I can't edit these Zoom meeting files.

What am I missing about iMovie to make it edit these files?

On iMac, Monterey v12.5.1 and iMovie v10.3.4 (all current).

I appreciate this is not what you are asking but I use Final Cut Pro and can edit Zoom recordings when Quicktime is not enough.

Good luck finding a solution.
