Can iOS5 wirelessly sync my photos? (not PhotoStream)

Want: To have my photos wirelessly synced to my Mac for storage/backup.

Thoughts:
So before iOS5 existed, I had to plug my iPhone 4 into my Mac, sync it with iTunes and also manually transfer any new photos to iPhoto to back them up.

Now, with wireless iTunes syncing, all my music/apps etc. are wirelessly synced/backed up each night (great!)... but what about my photos? Are they automatically synced to iPhoto?

I know Photo Stream is updated automagically on all devices, but that is a syncing service - not a backup - because if I don't transfer them from Photo Stream to an Album in iPhoto, they'll disappear after 1000 photos/30 days.

And iCloud Backup is fine - but photos aren't displayed on my Mac in iPhoto.


So I guess my question is: can my photos be wirelessly synced to my Mac (other than Photo Stream)?
Or do I still do that manually with cables? << soooo last week.

Your photos are not synced automatically to iPhoto. However, they are synced and saved to iTunes so incase your iPhone goes south, and you purchase a new unit, whenever you last synced, then all that content, including photos will be retried.

Also, you can sync the other way around. Create new albums or new faces you want to go to your iPhone. You just check them in iTunes and click sync and they will go to your iPhone.

Basically what you want is achieved by iCloud and PhotoStream where your photos are automatically added to iPhoto because when those devices land in iPhoto, they stay (somebody correct me if i'm wrong on this one)

Nope, that's wrong.

After 1,000 photos iCloud will erase the oldest photos from the server, but it will never erase a photo from your hard drive.

iCloud Photo Stream will do exactly what you want.

Your photos are not synced automatically to iPhoto.

Unfortunately photostream doesn't really do the trick if you're looking to organize your photos in albums using the new albums feature in iOS. Nor does it do anything with videos. Photostream is kinda half-baked IMO. You can't even delete a photo from it.

Yeah, I meant that they didn't go from iPhoto my my hard drive and so disappeared off the server...

BUT... then I saw this pic you posted.

Yes, through PhotoStream. I'm talking about using iTunes Wi-Fi Sync.

I agree it is half-baked but you can delete photos from it.
