iPad Air Can iPad Air (4th gen) be charged with a 5w or 12w brick?

Yes, the wattage doesn't matter whatsoever.

I'm pretty sure the bricks are ok (because they are charging an iPhone and an older iPad nightly). Seems like I have a cable problem.

You might get into situations where you consume the energy quicker than some old chargers provide them, depending upon your use during the charging process.

May I ask why you are not getting something with a little more power and USB-c connection?

It would be convenient for me if I could charge it the same way I’ve been charging the predecessor first generation iPad Air - using one of the non Power Delivery ports on my Anker PowerPort Speed PD 5 (max power of each being 12w). But it wasn’t charging using one of those so I experimented with Apple 5w and 12w chargers which ought to work but didn’t.
