Can iPad mini 4 handle 4K?

since I've been flying my drone more and more and I'm getting my 7 plus this week I've been wondering if my mini 4 could handle 4K in iMovie. I tried with my old 2010 27 inch iMac with a core I3 and it was terrible even with 1080p.(don't have 4K content. Drone only does 2.7k)

The mini 4 looks to be a 2k screen. What are you using drone wise, is it a Phantom 3 Standard? Some of the drone settings allow for 60 fps at 1080p, I've noticed with Intel integrated HD, the 60fps 1080 playback setting causes the Intel CPUs to stutter quite a bit. You have to enable 3D acceleration on the dedicated GPU to get smooth playback it seems.

Correction: I meant 1080p at 120 fps.

Why run 4K on any screen below 50 inches? A normal person with normal eyes won't know the difference between 4K and 1080p on a screen sized like the iPad mini.

You can totally tell the difference between 1080p and 4k with those drones. 1080p can be very pixelated, since most of the consumer drones have no optical zoom. In youtube videos the 4k scaled down to 1080 still looks better than original 1080.

Yes,there is a difference between the drones,but will you see it on a screen sized as the iPad mini?

On my 15 inch monitor with my Phantom 4 yes, on a mini tablet, probably not. Not even sure if the tablet would even be able to playback 1080p at 120 fps, or at 2k.

My experiences with drones are limited,but when transferring both 1080p and 4K files from the same canon DSLR,and played it with different devices,I saw no difference on screens smaller than 30 inches or more. However,if you use different sources,you also see the quality difference between the sources. My replies here only refer to video playback with different resolution from the same camera.

You might have some point,but did you try to use video files from the same source (e.g the same camera) with both resolutions? Different sources has different optical quality,different video compression and different codec.
The only way to really evaluate differences in video playback is by using exactly the same source.

That depends entirely on how close you are to the screen. If you were 2 feet away from a 30" screen, 4K is going to look a whole lot better than 1080p. If you're 20 feet away from a 50" TV, you probably wouldn't notice the difference between 4K and 720p.

It's to edit 4K on the mini 4 in iMovie. I have a 4K tv and I'm upgrading my drone to a mavic pro soon. I'm just wondering if I have to buy a newer iPad to edit the video on. Because my iMac is super choppy.

For any kind of serious video/photo editing,I recommend the large screen iPad Pro.

The only discernible difference between iPad and a 4K display is HDR and higher fps. Otherwise the clarity is equal. So no... full/true 4K doesn't display on iPads as they don't have HDR or higher frame rates... it'll still be crystal clear though.

People watching them at a desk or those editing video. Higher resolutions on phones are also needed for VR.

And you've obviously never used a 5K Retina iMac..... I watch 4K videos taken by my mirrorless camera all day on a 5K 27" screen, and you can definitely see the difference in sharpness.

43" Sony 4K TV.I watch lots of Sky UHD t.v. 2-3 feet away in living room.
