Can iPad Pro play 4k 2160p YouTube videos locally I downloaded with nPlayer Plus or Infuse Pro with H/W encoder ?

It seems to always want to use S/W encoder.

Did you try it anyway in nPlayer? Curious as to whether it plays okay with software decode, it might suck for the battery but would be interesting to know if the GPU of the pros were up to the task.

When you say download locally, you mean the file has been dowloaded to your iPad or to your Mac?

Using the Plex DNLA server on my Mac and running Plex on my iPad Pro a 4K video plays just fine. Infuse doesn't list the video as a choice when the same Plex server on my Mac is the source. Plex does transcode, of course, since the iPad Pro display (2224 x 1668) isn't 4K.

Yes I did. It seem ok kinda with audio sometimes being out of sync and video skipping a little or lagging but it was using a software decoder.

Well I first downloaded it to my PC then transferred it over to my iPhone 6s Plus and iPad Pro 10.5 inch through Wifi transfer.

Since a 4K video has to be transcoded (I assume to 1080p - 1440p is 2560x1440 which doesn't quite fit but can't confirm) to play on your iPad/iPhone, the question is do you do the transcoding before or after transferring to the device. I just downloaded a 10 minute 4K video from Plex running on my Mac to my iPad. It took 8 minutes to transcode - and during the transcode my mac was running at ~1800% cpu. Don't think any iPad or iPhone has enough horsepower to do this on the fly. I would expect stutters.

It can't play 8K video with H/W encoder either
