You know how iTunes let's you either organize your songs your own way and then import them to iTunes from your folders -OR- you can let iTunes organize and file away your songs the way it wants to?

Is there any way to make iPhoto reference folders that you organize yourself or is there another photo viewing application that does allow you to do this easily? Seems like if you want to use iPhoto, you have to let the computer make a copy of your original picture and put it into it's own file structure. I'd like to keep my own way of organizing things, but have iPhoto see them.

Google actually did it right with their Picassa program for Windows.

iTunes --> Preferences --> Advanced --> General

Untick "Keep iTunes Music folder organized" and "Copy files to iTunes music folder…", and you're set.

iPhoto --> Preferences --> Advanced

…and untick "Copy files to iPhoto Library folder". I'm not sure if this option is present in your version of iPhoto (I'm on v6, the iLife '06 version), but all the same, :p.

Nope. This option isn't there for iPhoto '05. There is no "Advanced" thing under preferences. This might be the single best reason for upgrading.
