For the next month or so, there will be loud construction happening just outside the window of my small office. There's a constant barrage of hammering, electric drilling, sandblasting, etc.

The ANC of my AirPods Max has managed to reduce the noise and make my work more bearable. However, just as I am concerned about the damage the construction noise could do to my ears (and sanity!), I'm also wondering if these same noises could also permanently damage the microphones in the APMs.

No, it might drain the batt a bit faster, because the ANC has to work harder :)
And if the sounds were able to damage the Max, or your ears, then they are grossly violating the sound levels that they are allowed to produce.
