I have an M1 iMac and I still have one port open on the back.

I have a work laptop that a run a long USB C power adapter for and I’m wondering if I can JUST power the work laptop using the iMac?

I don’t want any information from the work laptop to go onto my iMac and I don’t want any information from iMac to go onto the work laptop.

Is it safe to just plug the work laptop into the iMac with just the USB C ports? Again, I’m not sure if it will simply power the device or share information from each one.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

My MacBook Air will charge slowly when connected to my 2017 iMac via usb-c. They won't exchange any data unless told to via file sharing, migration assistant, etc.
TIL!
I’m happy to be wrong. Found this too.

Not to forget, the Thunderbolt ports have quite cramped space for their circuit boards, long term charging at the max of the port's capability might lead to overheating. And the whole iMac has a 143 watts power supply.
