Yes, you need to run it from the Terminal command prompt. The text you are seeing is the help screen that prints if you don't supply the name of a file to convert.
 
OK thanks for that.

I downloaded the clit file to my download folder on the desktop and opened terminal and changed the directory to the desktop. But then what?

I typed in the name of the file I want to convert, which is on the desktop but it returned a 'permission denied' message.

Is there something else I should do. I've checked the FAQ page on clit but there's not much there.
