hello
i am a pc user, software developer, i want to test some programs on a mac os, i know very little about macs,
i purchased a external usb hard drive that says it is mac os compatible,
can i install a mac os on it and use it through my pc hardware ?

or does the mac os need the mac hardware ?

You need a Macintosh. There are some Mac emulators out there, but none of them are very good.

Apple's switching to Intel CPUs over the next 18 months or so, but, even then, you'll need a Mac to run OS X.

There is stuff like PearPC, a painfully slow PPC emulator.

Side note: Just think that in about two years, we won't need PPC emulators... no more PPC!

You'll still need something that emulates the rest of the Mac hardware though.

And don't be surprised If Apple makes it that much harder to do in the coming future.

In what context do you mean. In two year Apple will no longer be putting the PPC in a Mac, at least that is my understanding. The PPC will still live with IBM though.

But Apple will still support it.... i hope.
