I just want to confirm something. I have a Macbook Pro and you can use a mini displayport to DVI converter and then a DVI to HDMI cable to connect to a HDMI display. You can do this on a Mac Pro, correct? I have two HDMI displays (a 1920x1200 PC monitor and a Sony 720p TV) and while I know I can plug one directly into the DVI port on a Mac Pro with a DVI-HDMI cable, I just want to be sure I can do the same with a converter on the mini displayport. Thanks.

From http://www.apple.com/macpro/specs.html

Video adapters available for:

* Additional DVI output using Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter (optional)
* Additional dual-link DVI output using Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter (optional)
* VGA output using Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter or DVI to VGA Display Adapter (optional)

It doesnt explicitly say anything about HDMI, but I am sure it would work if you had the right adapter.

Yeah Apple doesn't sell Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters for some funky reason. I used a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter with a DVI to HDMI cable on my Macbook Pro.

They've always made it hard to connect to a TV, they used to remove all the S-video capabilities from the GPUs, well the connector anyway. Most of today's PC GPUs like the 5870 have HDMI output but not on the Apple versions.
Force sales of AppleTV maybe? (though the early versions never supported s-video).

I have a mini display port to DVI adapter to run a 22" monitor. Works perfectly.

Thanks for the info. As a followup, do you know if the mini DisplayPort on the 2010 Mac Pro with a 5770 card can pass through audio like it can on the 2010 MacBook Pro?
