Hi guys advice needed. I work in a studio of 6 and we are all on macs, half of the business are on pc's(10 in total). I was looking at a website the other day about football and was told by my friend that the boss might be able to trace the websites my computer visits. I thought though that because all the macs are networked to the one hub, they wouldnt be able to tell which individual computer visited which site. They would just get a list. I use safari and firefox and immedaitely delete all history and reset caches each time i go online. Do you think this helps? thank you

That depends if there is a server between the modem and the computers which might be able to track the traffic, or a router which most probably is there. Many routers are able to log the traffic which can be viewed by anyone with access to that router.
there is a larger server but i'm not sure where the router actually is. But can the router determine which computers visit which sites? We all plug the dsl cable into sockets beside each other in the wall. tHE server stores all the emails.
This. Unless you're trying to find reasons to look at football sites on company time. Ask yourself whether your boss would approve. I'm willing to bet you know the answer and you know how to act accordingly.
Easiest thing is to make yourself familiar with company policy.
They can log who is visiting which site if they want and how much & often you are downloading and what you are downloading (if they stream isn't encrypted). The hub isn't going to help you.
Clearing history & caches would help only if they weren't logging your activity and instead wanted to find out after the fact.

Get a phone and use AT&T's 3G network instead.
If you connect to the Internet via company LAN, then yes they can easily monitor your packets and see which sites you visit.
There can also be software installed on your computer, that runs in the background, that records you keystrokes and/or sites that you visit.
Best to use company equipment for work and not play.
BTW, just in case your company has open WiFi access, or has given you access to their WiFi, be sure to turn off WiFi on your iPhone so it's forced to use 3G. If not, they can log what you do via WiFi as well.

Yes they can figure it out, but if they do and they care and they get pissed, then you don't want to work for them anyway!
Dont woory i'm trying to get a new job. Thats why im xtra paraniod that theyre watching me. problem is theres a recession on, and jobs arent that easy to come by. Can i check off the proxy box on my internet settings to bypass any server?

It depends on how complex the server setup is.
Keep in mind that each Mac/PC has a unique MAC address (no, that's not Mac, it's MAC). The router that is sending them the data knows which PC is requesting what web site. If your boss has some kind of network filtering software, like WebSense or IronPort, running on a server, all of that traffic is logged.
You shouldn't be doing anything you would get in trouble for on a work PC anyway, though >_>

Even then, though, there's the inherent danger (if you consider it that way) of your actions being recorded - in which case, there's a need for two-pronged effort at secrecy.

Yes it is possible even without a server between you and the router. The router itself depending on which one it is keeps logs of websites visited and such by computer. Also depending on how computer literate the people are, they can get onto the physical computer you are on and look at logs, cookies, and history and see exactly what you have done even off of the internet/network. Trust me it's amazing at the stuff that is cataloged on the computer that you do everyday.
