Well software's hardware requirements are generally available for review on the software's box and website. Look at them and compare.

You can run GTA on a mbp, but will it run well no. Just turn down the setting to 1024 x768 and low to medium setting and you can play alright. The real show stopper in the computer is that GPU sharing ram.

It would run very poorly. I would not buy the game to play on that machine, if I were you.

Most reports I've read say that GTA IV runs poorly on less than a quad-core machine, regardless of the computer's other specs (due to console rather than computer oriented code). Combined with a mediocre GPU, you may be able to play, but certainly not on higher settings.

Yeah I also heard it doesn't run well on many computers even some modern ones. I read someone who had a MBP w/ the 9600 and was running it at medium settings at less than native res and was getting 30 fps.

Also there is a youtube video showing gta 4 on the 9400m

It runs very poorly on my MBA, but it runs. I don't get anything above 20 fps but its somewhat playable unless I'm looking to shoot someone, then I'll be in trouble.

I remember it didnt run any better on my 2.4GHz/6GB/8600GT 256MB MBP

Even on the consoles it doesn't have the best frame rate. I swear I got less than 5 fps for around 10-20 seconds once.

If you look around on gaming forums the general consensus is that it's a terrible port, very sloppily coded. Even very high end gaming rigs have trouble with it.
