Can my SR MBP run hotter using Bootcamp?

I don't even know if this is possible and all my observations are annecdotal, but is it possible for my SR MBP to run hotter using Bootcamp than OSX? It certainly seems to be. I know it uses different profiling routines, but the battery life seems to be much shorter on Bootcamp than on OSX. Is that possible?

Yes it does run hotter, Windows Puts more of a load on the CPU for a longer period of time. Thus it runs hotter.

The fans will cool it down so it'll run at the same temperature as OSX does.

But it takes ages for the fans to come on when using Boot Camp - I can be playing a high resolution game for 20 minuites with the whole laptop getting roasting before Windows decides it might be a good idea to put the fans up full RPM.

No, as the poster above you says, the CPU cores run at a higher throttle in Windows XP than in OS X. I'm not even sure if there is any variation in the throttling in XP since I've had it idle at 70C compared to the 50C in OS X.

My point was that Windows waits a long time (or the temperature to reach a high level) before turning fans on full.

Fair enough, but my point is that to answer the question of this very thread, yes, the MBP runs hotter in Bootcamp.

Thanks, guys. What about the battery question? Do you know of any "benchmarks" that might objectively demonstrate a difference in battery life between OSX and Bootcamp (Vista)?

Well obviously with a higher CPU throttle the more power will be used. It's all probably a Bootcamp driver thing that I hope gets fixed in Leopard but doesn't effect me all that much since I spend most of my time in OS X anyway.
