With a bookmark that was saved to my Home Screen, long pressing the name of the web site icon no longer gives you the option to edit just the name. At some point during ios 15 I discovered this ability by accident. Previously if I wanted to do this, because either the name was too long to be displayed correctly or for any other reason, I would have to delete the icon and go back to the web site and repeat the process of saving to Home Screen and edit the name there and then save again. Being able to edit just the name of a specific icon, bookmark or app, without triggering the the wiggle was a major convenience. I don’t know when this changed, whether it was before 15.4 or after, but I do miss it.

I don't recall ever being able to edit the name of a Home Screen icon. Maybe that was lost when 3D Touch went away.

I only discovered it by accident. Instead of long pressing on the icon I pressed on the name below the icon. Got a contextual menu that included editing the name. If you long pressed on the icon you wouldn’t see that. Now it’s gone. I believe it would have been removed with 15.4 but can’t be sure since it has probably been a couple weeks since I last did this. But it was an option, at least on the iPad.

The only renaming option I see is when you long press folders.

Interesting, I don't recall being able to rename bookmarks on the home screen either, and searching the web doesn't seem to indicate it was ever possible. Maybe it was a bug/fluke or something Apple didn't intend to release yet... You're not thinking of being able to rename folders, are you?

No, renaming folders has been possible for quite a while now. Although I think the process may have changed a bit. The icon renaming I only found after iOS 15, and only by accident. I did it as recently as a couple weeks ago. And again you wouldn’t have seen it unless you long pressed on the existing name, not the icon itself. I remember when I first discovered it I thought that it was a great idea, and was quite grateful for it. Now all gone and only a few had seen it. The only response I’ve gotten so far is from someone on the AppleSeed beta discussion forum who confirms it is now gone.
