Can older macs take an SSD?

I have a unibody macbook (before they went pro) which I'm planning to upgrade by replacing the hard drive with an SSD sometime soon but I also have a 2006 Core Duo iMac and my daughter has a Core Solo Mac Mini.

Does anyone know if it is possible for either of these machines to make use of an SSD drive?

SSD Drives will work in the same places as any other hard drive.

I'd imagine providing the connections are the same. I believe I've read people upgrading their 13" MB (the October 2008 unibodies) to SSD.

that's what I was wondering really, whether or not the connections on the older machines would be incompatible. All this PATA and SATA stuff - I don't have a clue.

well you could go to the apple menu / about this mac / more info and check the ATA and SATA entries.

If you see the dvd drive on the ATA and the hard drive on the SATA then you'll be able to put an SSD in place of the hard drive.

But the older intel macs ran SATA at 1.5G i think so you'll have 'some' of the SSD benefits missing.

Have no idea how much 'some' is sorry.
