Hello
I own the 9.7" iPad Pro and I've got the Smart Keyboard and the Silicone Case to protect it.
As I'm a student, I worry about about carrying my iPad in my backpack along with other stuff (some folders and a few books).
I would put the iPad in a different section so it can't be hit directly by anything but still, I am a little bit concerned given the thickness of the device...

So, is there reason to be worried or not and how do you carry your iPad?

Best wishes and thanks!

Get a sleeve to protect it while its being transported in the backpack. Might be hard with the case and keyboard, but I imagine even a laptop sleeve would add that extra protection.

I second this advice. If you are concerned, get a sleeve and worry less! :)

I have mine in a sleeve with a front pouch that holds the pencil. This is then put in my backpack, it has a slot for laptops/tablets. No issues at all, in fact works well with AirPods still retaining connection to the iPad (the distance is minimal).

You have nothing to worry about. Just keep it in the part closest to your back.

Last summer I had my 9.7" Pro in my small purse backpack. I took a spill at an intersection and came down directly on my back. No harm done to any of my precious electronics. (I was, however, black and blue for weeks.)

I have iPad Pro 12.9 with screen protector, and smart case also I ordered 13" neoprene sleeve from eBay it feel thick. I put iPad Pro with Apple Pencil and Logitech Keyboard in it. I bought cheap Outdoor Product backpack with padded pocket for ipad/laptop with many pockets from Walmart. It worked well for a year.

I carried mine as well as my MacBook Pro in my bag last semester with no issue. It was mentioned, keep it in the pocket closest to your back on the off chance you bite the dust for some reason. I did with mine, put all my weight on it and it's fine. I fell off a fence.

I used a backpack from Northface which I got on sale which looks like the current Surge:

The section closest to the back is the pocket where I place my iPad. It is relatively thin in depth and padded, so my iPad is fixed in position but is protected. So I would follow all of the suggestions above (keep right next to back, pad it up, make sure that it can't be hit by anything else). Screen orientation is a little dicier. If you keep it facing your back it is protected from other items in your backpack. However if you throw it back facing side down in lockers and there is something there then that might be a problem. In my case since it is a padded partition in the backpack, and it is in an Apple case I don't worry about it.

I've travelled all over the world flinging my pack on seats, plane and train overhead compartments, floors on rocking boats and African safari vehicles and have never had a problem.
