Can one run sudo commands on a disk running in target mode?

Perhaps by entering Volume ID.

If so I would need to know the proper syntax.

Thanks!

If you mean mounted to another Mac....yes, on the mac you are using, you can run commands and access the mounted (TD mode) drive.

You can drag the folder into your terminal window for easy navigating/file path.

"You can drag the folder into your terminal window"

Thanks, will give that a try!

Long story but since you asked-

2011 Mini - Mavericks

Initial problem: would not start, no chime
Removed HD put in case, Disk Util found problems
Decided to reformat and clone external back up

Put back in Mini, started fine however:
will wake from sleep right after being put to sleep but NOT an hour later.
Reset PRAM and SMC.

Thought to check pmset -g
Hence my Target mode ?
Did so by starting in Safe Mode rather than Target.

Image attached from pmset -g
(I have to open the image here in a new tab to see correctly)

Disk Utility First Aid said errors.
Started Mini from the external drive and ran DU, errors fixed.

Now will not start, actually chime, sprocket then re-starts and does the same repeatedly.

Safe mode start is fine.

Is this likely a ROM / Logic problem rather than the HD?

(Thanks for reading)

One way to test, if you have an external HD around, would be to install OS and boot from an external. If it runs fine, I would suspect internal drive, or possibly SATA cable.

Running OK in Safe Mode does seem like a possible software/OS issue...not hardware.

2011 mini, acting a bit strange, boot doesn't quite seem to get there in a way that you should expect....
I would likely start by tearing 'er down, and replacing the button battery.
Install an SSD (leave out the old hard drive, Disk Utility is "fixing" this drive too often), and reinstall/restore from your backup (if you need that)

It will start from an external (firewire) and seems to function fine but the sleep issue is still there (won't wake after an hour) even when running from the external.

That is what I figured and thought to swap out the internal drive for the external but since the sleep issue persisted I changed my mind.

Did not know there was an internal battery, makes sense though I remember changing them in my old PPC towers (but not a button).

Would hate to obtain/install an SSD (thinking it needs a carrier of sorts) when I have concerns of Logic or ROM issues?
