Can OS Yosemite Cause...

I had OSX Yosemite Beta installed on my 27" mid 2009 iMac and the video card died. Just was wondering if there is any chance that software can damage hardware like this. Just looking for an honest answer.

I liked Yosemite, found it very stable, my machine ran very moth and seemed a quicker. Just don't want to put it back on if it can cause hardware issues.

Software can actually install firmware updates in hardware to change things, and I saw a couple posts where someone actually found firmware updates for some of the newer Mac portables embedded in the Yosemite installer, but there was nothing for older iMacs like yours.

Every time a new OS versions comes out I notice posts like this saying something along the lines of "Mavericks broke my computer/hard drive etc". Installing a new OS really give a computer a workout. Tons of files het copied and drive gets reindexed etc. and all this makes things warm and taxes the hardware. I think what we are seeing with these issues is you had hardware that was near death and the stress of an OS upgrade pushed it over the edge.

But no, there isn't anything about a Yosemite install that would wreck a video card.

Thank you for your reply. I should have also stated that I had Yosemite installed when the beta first came out and the video card failed 2 weeks ago, so I was running Yosemite for a while just fine ... and some mild research suggested that apple had issues with the video cards in 2009 on 27" iMacs and the repair person had said that their were issues with the video card in iMacs in 2009.

I really like Yosemite ... the apps i use most frequently like iPhoto and iTunes seemed quicker.
