I play 6 hours a week on the MacBook Pro 15" 2017 plugged in, the CPU is at 78 degrees and the two fans at 4700 rpm, can this compromise the battery life?

I have the option to use GeForce now to avoid overheating. But it has a higher cost in relation to the use of Steam and the dedicated Radeon Pro 555 GPU.

In and of itself, it will not damage the battery. What can shorten the life of the battery is external temperature extremes, or keeping the battery plugged in all the time thus not allowing it to naturally discharge and exercise the particles inside.

I only leave the Mac connected when I'm going to use it for a longer time, after that I take it out of the socket and leave it in sleep mode

YES. Steve Jobs famously hated games. He had a self destruct mechanism built in to MacOS for anyone who plays games! Please avoid at all costs!

Calendar aging of a battery occurs faster at higher temperatures.

But the battery on a mac is near the trackpad, opposite from the CPU, presumably for this very reason to keep it away from heat. So the CPU being at 78C wouldn't necessarily translate into a significantly higher temp on the battery side.

If anything keeping it plugged in near 100% is the more significant concern with regard to aging.
