I heard from somewhere that your calls are recorded on school laptops and schools can go back and watch them. I personally don't believe this is true but I want confirmation. Is this true?

The audio/video contents of FaceTime calls are protected by end-to-end encryption, so no one but the sender and receiver can access them.

Your school would have to actively engage in a network attack, which seems highly unlikely to me (and probably violates federal laws, depending on where you're from).

That being said, since the devices are school issued, they might've been able to record your calls in other ways:

  • By hijacking your microphone / webcam;

  • By replacing FaceTime with a malicious imposter application;

  • By intercepting traffic before it leaves the device.

...so you’re using a school laptop to make FaceTime calls of a personal nature. Are you asking if the calls themselves are recorded or are you asking about the call log?

I am not sure which country you live in since your profile only says "earth." So I would check your local laws, but I would say it is not true if in the USA. I believe Federal Law 18 U.S.C. 2511(2)(d) would require the consent of at least one of the two parties of the Facetime call to have given consent to be recorded. So I think hijacking or deceptive practices such as replacing facetime with an imposter app in order to record would be problematic for the school.
