I'm buying a dashcam and have read that the Mac is not compatible with the Fat32 format for higher capacity SD cards that are 64GB and up. Is this still true in the latest OS Sierra?
What about exFat? It should support filesystems larger than 32GB, no?Maybe I phrased that wrong by saying Fat32. Anyway, SD cards created with PCs that are greater than 32gb have not been Mac readable in the past. However, SD cards created with the Mac disc utility using MS Dos Fat will work for both, so that's the workaround. I was wondering if Sierra eliminated the need to do this.
Not really a SD card issue at all, but a formatting issue. The article doesn't state what format "Some" larger cards are using so as to whether the work-around is still needed in Sierra? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ probably. macOS will read & write FAT32 (limited by design to 32GB) and exFAT. It will read (but not write) NTFS. There are 3rd party utilities (e.g. Paragon, Tuxera) to enable NTFS write, might also help with whatever format they're talking about.Got it from this page: https://www.blackboxmycar.com/blogs/news/106908231-how-to-get-a-64gb-microsd-to-work-with-macs
"Many of our customers are Mac users, and a large portion of them want to use larger MicroSD cards with their units too. The problem here lies in that SD cards 64GB and higher are written using a format that Mac computers don’t know how to read."
