Can Snow Leopard connect to Leopard as server?

Hi all,
It's been a long while since I've had to play with any network stuff in Mac and am only looking into it again because our Warcraft3 strategy game is not running LAN games.

So up under Finder's "GO" menu I try connecting the Snow Leopard Mac Pro to my old G5 running Leopard.

It won't do it. Anything special I need to turn on?

This is the other thread asking specifically about Warcraft 3, but now I think it must be more in the networking configuration.

It works for me.

Core solo Mac mini running 10.5.8 Leopard, with file sharing enabled over AFP.

Core 2 duo Mac mini running 10.6.2 Snow Leopard. SL Finder sees the solo server and can browse or connect. Saved aliases to folders on solo server resolve and connect fine.

My G4 PPC machine is too puny for Leopard, but when it runs Tiger or older, the Snow Leopard mini is able to see it.


Try turning file sharing off, then on again, on your Leopard machine.

Also double-check that file sharing via AFP is enabled.

Use Network Utility.app (located in /Applications/Utilities folder) to ping your G5 and see if it works.

You might also find Bonjour Browser useful for looking at whether your G5 is sending out Bonjour packets or not. If the G5 doesn't show up sharing anything under any circumstances (try AFP, FTP, SMB, Screen Sharing, Web sharing, etc.), then maybe something is wrong with its network configuration, or even the physical wiring.
