And what’s going on with it? I’ve had it for a long time and recommended it to my wife but now she downloaded it on her iPhone and it’s prompting her to “subscribe monthly”? What the heck? I remember buying the pro version a couple years ago and now, it doesn’t seem like I have pro features on mine. It won’t let me create more faults. It just makes a “demo vault”

Did I not get the memo on Something changing? Pretty disappointing

When you open it the first time it gives you the option of signing up/signing in to your 1Password account or syncing through another method. I personally use iCloud and set it up on a new phone yesterday. Worked fine.

If you did the IAP previously for the pro features you'll have to go into settings and restore the purchase.

1Password switched to a subscription based model -- I think earlier this year.

They sell subscriptions and stand alone licenses side by side.

This answered my questions perfectly. Me and my wife thank you! She just got locked out of her iCloud account and lost all her stuff and had to make a new phone so her using 1Password will be a godsend

You’ll probably find 1Password employees weighing in shortly. There are a few who frequent the forums.

I personally use the sbsciption service as it enables multiple shared vaults. It’s incredibly, incredibly handy for storing all sorts of information that needs to be shared between family members. Particularly useful if you have elderly parents and need to manage accounts for them while they still have access, too.

I downloaded it to my wife’s phone and clicked “use iCloud” or something like that and it appears to be working. Is there a benefit for someone with basic needs to pay for the pro features / subscription?

I love this app. I went through all my log ins and social medias to have crazy difficult passwords created for each. All saved securely in this app for free. I havent seen anything about a monthly service tho, maybe because I have had the app for awhile.

I use the app and between all my devices ( imac, phone, ipad etc) it works seamlessly. The subscription is very reasonable and its nice being able to have all my passwords totally random, but easily recalled for when I need them.

Their name. And that you have to pay for one of them, thus making it more premium. Only you can't win such war against Apple.

Jokes aside, I haven't used 1Password to a great extent. I used it for a while and then couldn't see any benefits over Apple's keychain. Maybe there are some but they are niche and so I didn't come across them in my day to day.

For me, the two biggest ones are:

1) Keychain doesn't work on 100% of the sites that I use. Nothing like having Safari "suggest" a great password for a site, and then watch Keychain not save it.

2) 1Password has areas to securely record other things (secure notes, computer logins, credit cards, etc). I use it to keep stuff like passport/mortgage/insurance/etc info securely stored in a place I can access from any computer.

Question then on the 1PAssword subscription.

I want to update my iOS app, but I don't want to do the subscription, if I update it, will I be forced to do so, or can I use the DropBox location that I currently have for the vault?

It still supports local vaults and using your own sync method.
