Can someone explain the acivation/sync process please?

Hi there.
Can someone explain the process that happens when you purchase an iphone for business and you're porting numbers from another network.

Once we leave the store.. and get all excited about the iphone.. then what happens. I know we wait a few days for the numbers to port over from another network.. but..

Can we activate using one mac and then sync on another or is it best to use the same machine.

We want to have the iphones in docks in the office on our imacs, then use them at home to put the music and things on.. what can we do or not do this way?

I understand they work like ipods in relation to music.. but how is the activation process governed by which machine we want to 'pair' with it.

...and I will add, you can only use ONE computer to sync with the iPhone.
One to sync music/videos and if you want another to sync contacts/calender.
You can not use two computers for the same category.

thanks but what i meant was..

Can i use a diff computer to initially authorize the phone, then go home and sync with another one.. that i will use as the main sync?

How much does the computer that you initially authorise the phone with play a part in the whole sync thing?

These questions are answered in the manual and on the Apple website...just takes a little research.

The iPhone is NOT tied to any computer, it is attached to the iTunes ACCOUNT that you establish on the computer and the data base (music, videos, calender, contacts, etc)that is attached to the iTunes account.

Example: If you register your iPhone on your work computer and sync it then the data will be transfered to your iPhone with that iTunes account. When you get home and sync....ALL data on your iPhone will be replaced with the new iTunes account at home and that data base.

The only way to circumvent this is that your work and home computer iTunes account and data basis are mirrors of each other in both iTunes data base and iTunes account.

The only difference is as stated above in my original post. If you want to sync calenders/contacts at work then you would select manual sync in iTunes and set it up in the mail/contacts tab. And deselect sync for music/videos. Then at home you would set up manual sync deselect contacts/calenders and select music/videos to sync.

The only way that this can be explained any clearer is to read the manual and use the Apple help site as recommended before.

thanks for the replies. what I still don't get though is the initial activation with o2. I understand the registration is done in store..then some other activation happens at home with itunes?

I will have to wait fr the number to port over..but how does all this work with the activation. am I confusing the terms and sequence of events?

Does not matter who you activate with. iTunes is the "TUNNEL" or connector service. You are activating your iPhone with TWO things at the same time...Your iTunes account which will be associated with your cellular service and iPhone. Has nothing to do with the computer.

Not sure how long o2 takes to port...once you activate iPhone through iTunes...you will reach a stage where it will have to send you an email that says your number has been ported and to sync your iPhone again through iTunes to finish activiation.
