We can't see the partition names. Widen the left column.

Otherwise, nothing looks unusual to me. You have a single container on the SSD. Inside are two volumes—Macintosh HD and Macintosh HD Data. That’s normal. It also looks like you have a volume inside one of those volumes named com.apple...

That might be ok too. Are you running the installer?

My drive partitions done with Big Sur are different and has same kind of layout, a new unmounted grayed out slice just under the top Apple SSD -

I could not change partitions, only add an APFS volume which I did not want.

Finally went back and deleted + erased under Catalina -- and why I'm feeling 11.0.1 is not ready. When CCC etc. give A-ok then.

I don't know what this os.update-b.... is, but it seems to be normal/bug as it appears on my computer as well and not something OP did. My guess is it's related to Big Sur OS beta. It might get removed in a future patch.

The following are more informative:
diskutil list
diskutil apfs list

Big Sur uses snapshots so I think this is normal.

I saw same on mine and concluded/suspect it was a bug because I could not resize, add a partition or make any changes even though smoke free space and recently crested with the BS diskutility

So I went back to Catalina, no help, used DU from Recovery mode.

Thanks for your answers. I guess I'll see what happens once the Big Sur final is here. I never really understood that container thing.
