I have a local based forum for my area and was wondering if someone could make a logo for me. The forum name is Maryland Muscle, so if you could just make it say that and add whatever creativeness you have to offer to it. I would greatly appreciate it. The logo you create will be my forum's logo. Thanks guys!

It needs more gradients and another drop shadow.

Agreed x 3. Also, I would throw a dash of lens flare in there to dazzle the viewer, and maybe some flames as a light source for said flare. Some spotlight effects over the whole shebang would also communicate a sense of urgency, but that might be overkill. :D

My thoughts as well....

Please also think of the Joker Theory "If You’re Good at Something, Never Do It For Free"

It needs more gradients and another drop shadow.

How is this No-Spec? The guy didn't ask you to make a logo to get his business. He just asked you to make a logo for free. That's it. Nothing else. No promises of future income. It's not No-Spec.

It's the same as asking a friend who knows how to change spark plugs to change a spark plug. Big deal, if you're actually talented, you can do it in your sleep.

I do free logos all the time because I can, and because it's something to stick in the ol' portfolio. Clearly this guy isn't gonna pay hundreds of dollars for a logo, so no point in whining about it.

That Joker theory is more like:

"If you're a total DICK, never do something for free."

Having seen the "logo", well, do you think it was worth anything?

1st - theres actually rules on this forum about asking for 'free' services, we're quite happy to point you in the right direction but we're not going to do it for you.
2nd - Most of us on here rely on design to pay the bills, if we all did work for free we'd be without a home etc as no one would be willing to pay for it
3rd - have you seen how much a logo can go for these days, in the uk 'rebranding' can cost several thousand pounds due to it being quite simply one of the most important parts of a 'business'.

I've closed this thread although I was tempted to delete it. We do not permit requests for free or paid work on this forum.

Asking here for advice on something you are designing yourself is permissible. Asking for tenders or free design work, or even setting up a competition is against the spirit and rules of this particular forum.

As a professional designer myself, I'm only too aware of others' feelings in regards to no-spec work... however, as a tip to any up and coming talent, doing pro-bono work, especially for non-profit organisations, charities and community groups is an excellent way to develop your skills, your portfolio, your client relationships and contribute something back to your community, especially at grassroots level.

Even though I'm in my mid-40s and have been designing for over 20 years, and have paid work, I still do the occasional work for small charities. Just this afternoon, I've set up a contract for pro-bono work to produce an annual report for a small Quaker group here in London. Because I'm providing my time for free, from brief through to print management, this kind of project gives me greater creative scope to push the edges of a brief and print budget instead of being at beck and call of the client. It is also extremely useful for making contacts and providing references. Pro-bono work I've done in the past has opened doors for paid work down the line, so don't dismiss it out of hand.

I never do free work for clients who have money. ;)
