can someone help me? (partition for Bootcamp)

Sorry for being a noob on this. After I received my first iMac recently, I partitioned the drive into 3 partitions using Disk Utility and left one of the 3 partitions as 100gigs. Then i realized that i need to use bootcamp to partition the original drive to install windows (since I ran it and it says it can't partition the existing partitions). I would like to find out if there's a way for me to install windows on my pre-partitioned HD without having to start all over. Can I format my 100gig partition with FAT and possibly do something with that? I'm at a loss. Is there another program that I can use to format one of my partitions to work with windows install? Much Thanx

I don't know if this is of any help since I've never run Boot Camp, but according to this link, any partition above 32 GB cannot be formatted using FAT, but only using NTFS. Since you mentioned that you were trying to format a 100GB partition using FAT, I thought I'd throw this out there....

Boot Camp does nothing more but helps you to partition the disk and helps you to boot from the install disc. Simply, boot from the Windows disc and install it. You may have to format on of the FAT32 partitions to NTFS while installing but it's easy

sorry, i'm new at the whole installing windows on Mac thing. So i can simply reformat my 100GIG partition to NTFS and install windows on my Mac?

Yeah. Just boot from the Windows disk now as OS X cannot format volumes to NTFS. Then when it asks you select the volume, select the 100GB partition you meant for it. It likely says can't install on FAT32 so there is some format or advanced button there, click it and format the partition to NTFS. It's simple, it doesn't differ from normal Windows install

thanx...for some reason i had the notion that you HAVE to go through bootcamp to even get windows installed in the first place.

That's pretty common as people think that it's somehow needed although EVERYTHING it does is it helps you to create a Boot Camp partition and to boot from the install disc, that's all. It's not needed to install Windows but it's a nice tool as it's very simple
