hi everybody, i am going to get a new laptop soon. i want a computer that will be able to run leopard and vista quickly and i also want to be able to play video games. my computer now is under the minimum requirements for most new games. i also need dual layer dvd burner. so i think it's between a macbook pro or a laptop i try to build from barebones to work best with leopard. can ppl give me a little feedback pelase?

Most people don't build Macs from barebones... you're probably better off holding off for an updated Core 2 Duo MBP.
Only the 17'' MacBook Pro has a dual-layer burner, so that's really your only option currently. Also, as robbieduncan has pointed out you won't be able to use Leopard on a homemade machine.

ok then i guess i see what's going on, so i guess then maybe i should just get like the macbook for travel and get a cheap desktop i can upgrade for gaming. is the macbook good enough if i will prob jsut use it for business apps and media stuff?

Unless you plan on doing anything that demands a lot of video (like games or 3-D), you'll be fine with the MacBook.
If you want a Mac for gaming, I would get the iMac that was updated today. If you must have a 17" laptop then a Macbook Pro is nice but I wouldn't pay the premium for one. Trust me I have in the past. For a gaming laptop you will get much more bang for your buck from a PC. I would suggest Toshiba, HP, or Dell (shudder) off the top of my head as making decent products, as far as, mainstream retailers go (IMO, Lenovo and Sony are overpriced).
so yeah, im not gonna get the imac because i for sure want to get a laptop that i can run os x and vista on. i will be using this mostly for business apps and "media stuff" to clarify i mean my upwards of 10,000 songs and at least 100 someting movies. now all this is on an external hd so i jstu want a laptop that will be able to handle everything quickly.ddrueckhammer said:

2x1 1gb ram
nvidia geforce 7600 512 mb (highest option available)
i think that's all that really matters as far as games go. i could be worng, so if i am let me know. also, disc space is not an issue because i have an external hd.
