Can someone PLEASE show me how to put calendars on the iPad?

I can't figure this out for the life of me how to add additional calendars to my iPad/iPhone. I have 4 calendars in Gmail but I can't figure out how to get them on here. I can get them on here as "Subscribed calendars" but I can't add events to subscribed calendars directly on the iPad. I've read the Google Sync tutorials but they are not working. Apparently I'm missing something. I don't understand why this should be such a difficult process. For goodness sake I just want a calendar on my iPad not crack the CIA database. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a lot!

Make sure that all of your calendars have checkmarks next to them on this site --> https://www.google.com/calendar/iphoneselect. I have 4 or 5 calendars in Google that all sync to my iPhone and I'm able to edit them.

Go to m.google.com/sync on your ipad and authorize your device. Then in the calendar app, click "calendars" and turn on the ones you want to see.
