I've failed 2 phones now thanks to my chronic migraine, possible seizure, post concussion syndrome, broken ass brain. I need a new phone (again) and I'm hoping someone here can help me "test" the 8 and 8+ by recording the screen with another camera (Webcam, another phone without ir filter...). Strange, I know.

I've been using a galaxy s6 for years, it's OK (for my brain, but getting old and going to die soon).

I'm absolutely destroyed by flashing or flickering lights (even those unseen by the eye), like fluorescent lights, strobes, sunlight flickering through objects, etc. ever since a head injury 8 years ago that left me disabled.

I tried a galaxy s8, it destroyed me. I think it was the PWM with the AMOLED screen, so I tried an XR and it triggered me horribly. The proximity sensor is a red, always on, always flashing ir. The eyes can't see it, but the brain can. Cameras with no ir blocking can also see it (which is how i saw it, and even recorded it happening). I'm hoping someone with an 8+ can help. I can't test in store because the fluorescent lights themselves will trigger me. I'm hoping the 8+ proximity sensor is less intense than the xr's is.

I can’t help you with a video, but why not buy online direct through Apple. You have 14 days at home to test it out. If that doesn’t work for you then send it back. Even Best Buy allows you a 14 day return period.

I hardly believe that there is a difference in proximity sensors. Why should they?

You could cover them with a sticker. But of course loose the function

I can, I'm just getting tired of returns since I've done that twice already, and getting triggered is no fun. I may just have to though.

I don't know but I'm fine with this current phone and see nothing flashing on it, so something is different about it. The sensor is the only thing I found flashing on the xr so that's why I'm guessing it's the culprit.

If I’m to recommend a phone, try the newer galaxy phones. You can disable all the face and eye sensors and use just the finger print to unlock it. That way you can still cover the sensors with tape if you still want too and have security on your phone. The OnePlus 6t is nice also if your in T Mobile. Lower resolution screen and has a system wide dark mode that eliminates most of the bright white screen light. I’m not sure your going to find what your looking for unless you go hands on with them.

Your condition is quite unfortunate. Do you have any glasses with IR filtering lenses? Just wondering. Ignoring me is quite OK.
I do, but they only help prolong rather than prevent :/
[doublepost=1550336664][/doublepost]I've covered the proximity sensor with electrical tape and I'm still having issues, albeit less intense/sudden. So it's something else, too. No clue what. I guess I just keep finding and buying s6's for as long as I can, and then....who knows. Or maybe try the 8/8+ and hope its screen is lacking whatever on the XR is setting me off.
