  • How does it run overall?
  • What graphics settings can you run it at?
  • What are FPS in a 4v4 match? Or a match with a lot of units on screen?
For context, I play on a Macbook Pro 2015 15", and I play on 900p with the lowest graphical settings. In a 4v4 match, my FPS drops to about 30 after about 10 minutes in.

One thing to note in case there are any other fans of Paradox GSGs around here.

It's not just on the new ASI macs. All of Paradox's current GSGs like Crusader Kings 3, Hearts of Iron 4, and Stellaris are now broken with Big Sur. They will not even launch even if you are running Big Sur on an Intel Mac.

It's a confirmed issue by Paradox and so far they have said there will be no patches to fix this until each individual game is due for its next large patch. As some may be aware, sometimes the games only get one large patch a year.

My MacBook Pro 13 M1 just arrived today. Overall, Starcraft 2 runs great. My old laptop is a 2018 MacBook Pro 15.

For testing, I just played an 18 minute 4v4 match and Quartz was reporting that I am consistently getting around 50 FPS in the mid and late game. Sometimes with large engagements it will dip to around 40 FPS but I never saw it go below that. In the early game it would bounce between 60-80 FPS.

When I switch to high graphics settings, the FPS drops a lot and it even looks like the units are moving slowly. Not recommended. For best results, I set it to medium (overall) graphics settings with low shaders.

My most pleasant surprise with the M1 is the fan. On my old MacBook, the fan would kick on instantly and bottom of the laptop would get really hot when I start SC2. Now, the M1 gets a little warm but the fan never spins up. YES! Maybe it will come on if I opened some video in the background or something - will have to test that.

EDIT: one other thing I forgot to mention is that I run in Windowed mode. Not sure if that makes any difference.
