I have an AT&T activated phone.

Edge is disabled (can be done with a phone call to AT&T.)

I am in Trinidad for three months and since my last (and first AT&T) phone bill was higher than my mortgage payment, (travelling in Nova Scotia for a week) I called and had AT&T disabled the Edge feature.

Here's the problem with doing so.

If the iPhone is turned off, the person calling gets a weird message stating I am not accepting calls.

If the iPhone is turned on (and I don't answer) the iPhone rings for quite a few times and then the call just fails.

When I try to set up voicemail, I get a message "voicemail unavailable - Try again later".

So in essence I don't have a phone 100% of the time. What gives ???

Anyone else has this challenge ???

edge is essentially a digital signal and with out it you are using an analog signal which is probably why you are dropping calls.

Edge has more to do with just getting internet and stuff, it has to do with the the reception you get from your phone. If i were you i would go online and buy a razr if you are going to europe untill they come out with a international plan.

Dude, what are you talking about. Edge is a protocol. The iPhone does not even have an analog radio in it! Please provide some links to this fascinating info. I helped transition Cingular to GSM as an employee years ago. Edge has nothing to do with cellular reception.
