Can someone please test something in Maps in OS 11.4? This is a bug in 11.2/11.3 and I'd like to know whether it's been fixed:

  1. Open Maps (quit and restart if it's already running) and search for somewhere.
  2. The place will be 'selected' and a popup will include a blue Directions button. Click it.
  3. The Directions panel will appear with "My Location" in the first text field and the selected location in the second.
  4. Click in the first text field and press Cmd-A to select all text. Type something, and notice that it replaces "My Location" with the typed text.
  5. Press Cmd-A a second time to reselect all text. Type something, and in 11.3 it'll incorrectly append the text to the end instead of replacing it. Does this still happen in 11.4?

Bug is reproducible for me (11.3.1).
I have localization disabled, but if I type something in the 1st field, which is empty because of no localization, the bug manifests as described by the op

Interesting...

Looks like I'm going to have to install 11.4 myself and see what happens. I reported it to Apple in 11.2 and they told me it was fixed in 11.3 beta. I installed the beta and it wasn't fixed. Wasn't fixed in the release version either. Now Apple's saying it's fixed in 11.4 beta but I'm not holding my breath!

So if you use cmd+A and then type something it will not append to the current text but instead it will delete the selected text and replace it with the new one?
Strange it doesn't happen to all..

Even if I use the cmd+a and press the delete key I'm not able to delete the whole string, but only the last character..

I hadn't actually noticed that one, but same thing's happening here (in 11.3.1).
