Physically the 8700m GT could fit but that's not the problem. I was comparing the clockrates of the 8600m GT's in different notebooks and even the one in the 15.4'' MBP is one of the fastest clocked in comparison. I wasn't able to find a higher clocked 8600m GT then in the 17'' MBP yet BUT it's still slightly crippled... what basically means that an 8700m GT what ain't much more then a higher clocked 8600m GT is bad news for the MBP because of BBQ issues.

Not long ago I was starting a similar thread, there might be some info for you maybe. See here.

Maybe? I mean from what I have heard the 8700m is really just an overclocked 8600m (no more pixel pipes or anything nice like that) and the 17" MBP already has an overclocked 8600m. The slimness of the enclosure is a consideration....

So, short answer, I don't know, nor do I know of what point it would be.

The point of it would be prolly that the MBP would become THE machine of choice for guys who belong to the Photoshop or Final Cut bunch but suffer a computer gaming addiction at the same time!

I mean... I could live with Avid if I'm able to game Age of Conan in March '08 on my notebook. Desktop is no option for me because I'm so rarely at the same place that I'm seriously wondering why I even pay rent for an apartement.

17'' MBP doesn't have an overclocked 8600m. Both 15'' and 17'' are underclocked, 17'' is just slight higher. The only full speed 8600m are in Asus G1s/2s.

According to another thread on here, the 17" has an 8600m that has (IIRC) a 50MHz higher core clock than nVidia specifies. However, both the 15 and 17 have underclocked MemClocks.
