hesitating between iPhone SE and XR, my preference is SE because it is cheaper and lighter in weight, I do not play games or even watch youtube with my mobile phone. However, some said to me that iPhone SE could only last for a few hours of use, but XR could last a day. I don't care about screen size and chip and GB but battery is an important consideration for me. Any advice? Is the battery of iPhone SE (the new one currently sold) really this bad??

It depends who you ask. If you are a casual user it should last you the whole day.

OK. My primary use is sending messages - yes a lot of text communication every day and a lot of messages to send. Browsing Amazon, ebay, sending files, taking pictures is probably all I will be doing, (Video call is rare). Am I a causal user?

How many pictures? Camera drains a lot of battery. Also texting can drain your battery, but yeah…It kind of should last you the whole day if you won't take pictures all the time.
I know people who text a lot on WhatsApp and their phone lasts till the evening, but XR has better battery life.

I can assume that XR has a very good battery, but I am really worried about the battery of SE. I work all day long outside in the city and I do not like to carry a portable charger, I like everything light. Is there any comparison between the battery of XR and SE?
or does anyone know the actual battery size of XR and SE?

I think the term "a whole day" is wrong in this context.
Screen on time would be better.
I charge my 12 PM once or twice a week.

I am a light user and my SE gets to the end of the day with 60% or more battery left.
On the occasions I do more browsing because I am out and about more, I still get to the end of the day with 40%.

At one point it started draining very fast and I knew something was wrong.
I did a network setting reset and battery went back to normal.

Your experience might differ.

Comparison :

XR Battery: Li-Ion 2942 mAh, non-removable (11.16 Wh) that’s 1121mAh more battery than the SE 2020!
SE 2020 Battery: Li-Ion 1821 mAh, non-removable (6.96 Wh)

consider then size of each device and when/where you purchase either - BNIB will give you the noticeable battery life differences - used well its’ anybodies game. The SE should last you most of the day 9Am to 7PM, while the XR could last you 2 days.

Based on your choices:
SE - adjust screen brightness, disable WiFi when not needed or in use, disable VoIP for provider if not needed, disable location sharing or GPS for apps you don’t need to have that on - OH and WiFi assist (if you have this on burn it, disabled it, turn this off).

Good luck in your choice.

Location services is important to me, I'm not driving with it though. Did you imply that keeping the battery of iPhone SE 2020 a day will need a lot of extra attention?

Not extra care just comparing battery sizes as that’ll help predict battery life differences between the two - I’ve owned the 8, similar to the SE 2020, slightly more efficient cpu than the 8, but the 12 mini is very similar to battery life of those models
