Asking for a friend.

;)

Seems that, with the current multiport adapters available, it would be easier to make this work with a different monitor that supported HDMI/VGA. Bleh.

I would like to know this as well. I assume with the appropriate adapter it would work. I may have a 2015 MacBook interacting with a 24" and/or a 27" thunderbolt display at some point later this year.

My understanding is no.

Oh wait, MacBook 2015/16 no, previous to that I don't see why not.

the 2015/16 retina MacBooks don't support thunderbolt unfortunately

they will work with display port monitor though I believe (Cinema display)

What would I need to connect my 2015 MacBook to my 24" Cinema Display?

USB-C to HDMI adapter then a HDMI to DisplayPort adapter? UGH...
