I was wondering if the processor in my early 2008 I Mac can be updated. The question is if it is soldered or if it is socketed. I read somewhere that it was a ZIF socket, If this is true and it is socketed, can I possibly find a newer more powerful processor to upgrade with (a quad core) and what compatible processor would be. Right now my computer has the Duo core 3.06GHz model.

They are socketed but I don't think there has ever been a successful quad-core upgrade as the processors don't appear to function, perhaps it's a firmware issue. You would be better off selling and buying a new one as the Sandy Bridge quad cores are much improved over the Core 2 Quads.
