LED Cinema Display + Quad Core

Can the PS3 be played using this setup? It would be awesomely convenient.

I'm aware of the Kanex XD, which is a product that converts the mini-display port into a HDMI, turning your monitor into a TV screen. But it is only compatible with the iMac.
 
Monoprice sells a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable. Both ends are male but you can buy Mini DisplayPort coupler to bridge the male cable from the LED Cinema to the male cable connecting to the PS3. I'm not sure if this will actually work and much less if audio will pass through to the display's speakers.
