I’ve heard different stuff about this online. Someone claimed a certain cable bricked their (I dont remember what Device) and it made me a bit wary.

I am thinking of getting the air 4 but the cable it comes with can’t hook up to a USB type A computer obviously. Would something as simple as a phone usb A to C charger work for restoring an iTunes backup onto your new iPad? Or does the usb c cable need to be a bit nicer?

sorry for the dumb question I just don’t want to do the wrong thing.

I recommend going with a brand like Anker. They have a great reputation when it comes to third party cables and batteries. I’ve used their charging cables for years with no issues. They’re much cheaper and better quality than Apple’s cables.

You will need a cable like this one to sync between the iPad Air 4 and your computer.

So a USB to usbc phone charger that came with my s10 wouldn’t transfer data? I understand if you can’t say for sure but I don’t really wanna buy a cable I’m going to use once or twice. Thanks i appreciate your reply

It should work. I haven't really seen any usb cables that don't transmit data. Some USB-C only transmit at USB 2 speed, but it should work.

Less of an issue these days, but Google Engineer Benson Leung was doing tests of cables regularly around 4-5 years back, and a high number of cheap cables from online stores were out of spec, and were missing additional components that were required as part of design compliance. Think he even fried his Chromebook Pixel with a duff cable at one point!
