Can Time Machine work with a Non Powered Firewire 800 MOBILE external Hardrive?

I was thinking that if i bought an external MOBILE hard drive (un-powered) i could take it with me sometimes when i need it in UNI (in Lectures where there is no power source to plug drive in), but also attach it to the mac and since it is un-powered and mobile time machine will work without needing external power.

Is this possible?

And if it can't work using Firewire 800 can it work un-powered with USB or other means? Thank you. I just want to be 100% sure before i buy. Sorry for grammar problems can't be bothered.

It's a hard drive. Yes it's possible.

And it's not 'unpowered' - it simply gets it's power from your computer via the FW.
