Hey everyone,

I wondered whether you could help. I’ve recently acquired a second phone contract from a separate carrier and consequently have two phone numbers. I currently use an iPhone X for my main number and that is linked to iMessage, Facetime, Apple Watch etc through my iCloud account. I also have a separate Apple ID for iTunes store purchases.

What I would like to do is put my main number (which most of my contacts will know) in my older iPhone 5S and then put my new contract number in my iPhone X. Now here, comes the question……. most of my messages (iMessage, SMS), phone calls will now be coming through on the older iPhone 5S, can I use my iCloud account on both numbers? Or can I forward all messages (including iMessage & SMS) from my 5S to my iPhone X with the new SIM in?

Thank you for any help or advice in advance

Provided that both iPhones are using the same Apple ID for Messages, and both have had iMessages activated (such that both your phone numbers are actively registered to iMessage at the same time, and hence listed under 'I can be contacted via iMessage at' on all your devices), then yes this should be possible in theory.

The only road block might be that SMS forwarding was intended for an iPhone to be the source rather than the recipient of forwarded messages, so perhaps this isn't supported.

Try it and let us know!
