Can two sets of AirPods be paired to one phone?

I'd like to get another set of AirPods so I can have one pair in the house and one in the car. Can both sets be paired to the phone?

yea. i have both paired with my phone and works fine. they just swap and takes priority over which over ones is activated.

What if I only want to carry one charger case? Would I be able to charge a different set of airpods through a case it they didn't come from?

Is there some sort of dependency between a set of airpods and the charger case it came with?

If I place one AirPod in my ear, will it already turn on I need to place two initially? I'm asking this because I only plan to use one while at work.

If you just put one in, it will work. I do this all the time.
