can u return macbook pro on the 15th day?...if merom is released on oct. 10

hi..i know everyone is sick of that whole should i wait for merom thread..and its probably gonna get released on this date blah blah...
but i purchased my macbook pro on sept 25th and the 14th day to return it would be oct. 9..i'm hearing all these posts about a predicated date for oct. 10....should merom actually and finally be released on this date.. do u think apple will accept an exchange 1 day late? the 15th day. are they usually very strict with that policy...especially since its a whole new laptop being put out.
i'm happy with the laptop but i would be so pissed if i missed the return date on a brand new laptop release by 1 day.

Have you already opened and started using the MBP? If so, then I wouldn't even think of returning it because Apple charges a 10% return fee for items that have been opened.

So, if you paid $2500 for the MBP, and you return it, you'll have to pay a $250 return fee; meaning you'll only get $2250 back. Not really worth it IMHO.

Plus, I don't think Apple will allow you to return it on day 15. They are pretty strict about the 14-day return policy.

agree with RBMaraman - and for what it's worth - I do think there will be an update this week. So do it and lose 10% before the 14 days is up or just keep it and look to the future happy with your current purchase.

Or taking a blowtorch to it and shouting "It was the battery" like what some silly tool did a couple of months ago (I hope they arrested the fraudster)

Anyway just noticed Apple Insider has got some sweet gossip/rumors regarding the MBP imminent release in a few weeks. If this story reads true, then you may be unfortunately out of luck however, they also mention it is just a processor upgrade and not much else.

If it is just the processor I might even be happy to pick up a refurb of the Yonah ones at a slightly lower priced as it is now, so I really don't think the chip swap is just so great a deal.

It really is all the extras that'd supposedly come with the new revision, but if they aren't coming... why be a geek and give a damned about the chip?

I wouldn't return it if I were in your position, the restocking fee, and having to pay again for the new one, that makes everything so not worth it. Plus what if you happen to be among that 20% and get a dud machine afflicted with some new Rev "A" bug? If it works great now, no issues, no bugs, just be content with it and upgrade 3 years later.

there have been people waiting for the upgrades for months. Probably since like May. Whereas I have been enjoying mine since Feb. I know I made the right choice.

Rumours say Merom equipped MBP might be out before the holiday shopping. So, please buy as many yonah equipped MBPs as possible so that Apple can get the old inventory out the door.

I doubt they will, especially if you have opened it. I'm in a slightly similar situation; I am recieving a replacement MBP for a broken one (a brand new replacement in a new box and everything), but since it has a CTO HDD I don't think I can return it to the store if the C2D MBPs come out. My suggestion, and probably what I'm going to do, is sell my replacement as soon as I recieve it for as much as possible, then save the money until the C2D drops, and then go for it. If you try to sell after it comes out you will lose a whole lotta money.

I'm an ex-employee of Apple, and from my experience, Apple is inflexible when it comes to their terms. 14 days means 14 days, I've never ever seen Apple deviate from this (including with large corporate customers.) Take it as you will, but the likelyhood is no. Not to mention the re-stocking cost will negate any slight performance gains you might get from merom. Be happy with what you ordered, and in a year or two upgrade yet again.

when i bought mine mbp, the sales person told me (as it was right before wwdc, i wondered the return policy should new one comes out) that even after the 14 days, as long as it's not far beyond that (like a couple days are fine), they'd still take it back (provided, theyd charge restocking fee if i opened it)

... and well, we all know how that turned out, nothing back then

but again, the the OP, you'd probably better off keeping it, don't be greedy, otherwise your new one's gonna be a lemon

Hell, the only reason you probably bought the current lappy is because you believed a rumor posted on this site and you thought you would be the first to get one by ordering it before the announcement and then you could post pictures of the box openning party on your Flickr account.

Return it now and take the hit. You will feel uneasy and nervous until they finally announce the upgraded models. You will slack off at work (or school) because every time you get in front of a computer you will be checking every rumor site out there to get any info you can about the projected release date. Finally that day will come and you will order that new model after posting another question on whether or not to buy certain upgrades from Apple even though it would be much cheaper to get them from somebody else (but that would be so un-Apple-like to not support them fully - who cares though, you posted the question and made the purchase before the first person had time to respond - remember you already know what you want). It will probably take at least a week (even though you paid a huge amount for overnight shipping) to get the machine. All in all you will have paid over $500 more than your current lappy, and you will have a severe case of buyers remorse, but you won't admit it because your denial of you remorse outweighs your actual remorse. You will deal with that uneasiness by posting screencaps of your order online.

On the day it is supposed to be delivered you will call in sick or cut class to be there when the DHL guy delivers your new lappy. Out comes the camera so you can document the whole process. You will need to reference your blog post of all of the firsts for your new lappy. The first site you will visit, the first email you will send, the first mod you will perform, etc. After a few hours you might realize that there is no noticable difference in speed for you day-today activities so you will load up handbrake and encode your copy of Office Space to H264 and notice it did it almost a minute faster. Yes!! It was all worth it!

Why don't you just ask. INstead of getting a mix of answers here, go to (or call) the store and ask. I would say be sure you are talking with a manager and if they say yes take their name and say "thanks" and be done with it. If they say no then the risk is your's.

Nobody knows. Having worked for Apple, I know how secretive they are. Even employees at corp. didn't know if they didn't *need* to know. The insider that was once at large and feeding info has since been quashed. You're gambling now. Buy when you are ready to buy, and be happy with what you buy. Computers are constantly upgraded, no matter WHEN you buy (day after a product release) you are already buying outdated equipment. Make your decision based on your finances, as well as your need. If you can wait, wait. If you need something now, buy something now. This is true of everything - not just computers.

...TO FOLLOW ON TO YOUR DISCUSSION... if the product was purchased using a credit card ,I believe, some credit card companies may offer, some type of a protection when facing restocking fees.
