With Universal Control, can I have 2 Macbooks connected to the same monitor, and use the same keyboard and mouse when switching the input on the monitor?

I'm trying to figure out if Universal Control can basically eliminate the need for using a KVM switch.

No, Universal Control allows using each device keyboard and mouse to control multiple devices, but doesn't let you share a monitor.

Thanks. Would something like Sidecar or Sharemouse allow for this?

If the situation you are describing is specifically that:
  • You have 2 macbooks, which will be in use at the same time.
  • The 2 macbooks will not be in clamshell mode.
  • These macbooks will sit either side of a bigger monitor.
  • When that monitor switches input, the "disconnected" macbook recognises that it is not connected to an external monitor and is using only its internal display...
  • You have external keyboard/mouse/(trackpad)
Then yes. Obviously you'll have to manually switch input on the display.

Otherwise, if your situation is different to the above then the 99.9% answer is no.
