Was just wondering if anyone knows if you can get visual voicemail on an unlocked iPhone on O2 UK. I have simplicity £15 per month with the web bolt on and I am getting EDGE signal.

I have hacked the voicemail button so that it dials my mailbox by using the *5005*86*901 method. Does anyone know how to undo this so that I can check if Visual Voicemail works?

Thanks :)

Just a suggestion:

If you change your Thread Headline to something like
Can Visual Voicemail on O2 be unlocked?
You may get more help… otherwise you're setting up a lot of eager unlockers for disappointment. ;)

AFAIK, visual voicemail is specifically tied to the legit iPhone tariff. The technology that makes it work is on o2's side of things, so if you are using any other tarrif then it's not going to work.

Ahh OK thats fine. Will just the voicemail as it is then.

Thanks for your help.

potentially stupid question but does anyone know if on a legit iphone tariff, after unlocking would visual voicemail continue to work? I got the iphone on iDay uk and intend to unlock as soon as a good reliable unlocking method is found, but i really like visual voicemail.. so just want to weigh all my options before taking the unlocking plunge...

Yes it would, but if you are going to keep using that sim, i would suggest you do not unlock, only jailbreak the phone.

Jailbreaking is being able to add apps, tweak settings etc.
Unlocking is allowing any network - currently not available for UK iPhones.

The problem with unlocking is that it makes it harder to upgrade firmware - the new "Baseband" is likely not to work on a later firmware. Jailbreaking is not so dangerous as the worst that can happen is that a future update undoes the jailbreak (and it probably would).

I think perhaps you meant Jailbreak, but this is just to clarify.

Either way, it will not stop Visual Voicemail, but it would only work with that sim, not with another (non iphone) sim.

Thanks for that joshysquashy, I did mean unlock as I would like to put different sims in the phone for when i go travelling for extended periods of time.. Don;t want to hijack the thread so i'll ask rest of my questions elsewhere..

I wonder if there is anything stopping other carriers from setting up visual voice mail, all they would have to do is call it something different. It would certainly piss on O2s parade if hacked iphones running on other carriers had a similar function.
